# Configure Slack notifications from Datadog

Set up the Datadog Slack integration to send monitor alerts and notifications directly to your team's Slack channels.

## Before you begin

Make sure that you have completed the [getting started guide](../initial-setup-of-your-aws-environment/set-up-datadog.md) to set up basic Datadog integration.

## Step 1: Add Datadog to your Slack channel

Invite the Datadog Slack app to the channel where you want to receive notifications:

1. In Slack, navigate to the channel where you want Datadog notifications.
1. Type the following command in the channel:

   ```text
   /invite @Datadog
   ```

1. Confirm the invitation when prompted.

The Datadog app is now available in your channel and ready to receive notifications.

## Verify

Confirm that your Slack channel is listed in the [Datadog Slack integration overview](https://app.datadoghq.eu/integrations?search=slack&integrationId=slack){:target="_blank"}. This indicates that the channel is ready to receive notifications from monitors.

## Next steps

To send monitor alerts to your Slack channel, reference it in monitor message templates using `@slack-<channel-name>` (for example, `@slack-team-alerts` sends to `#team-alerts`). For detailed instructions on creating and configuring monitors, see the [Datadog monitors documentation](https://docs.datadoghq.com/monitors/){:target="_blank"}.
