# AWS CLI

The [AWS Command Line Interface](https://aws.amazon.com/cli/){:target="_blank"} is mainly required for its [SSO authentication command](https://docs.aws.amazon.com/cli/latest/reference/sso/index.html){:target="_blank"}.

```sh
brew install awscli
```

Also install `session-manager` either through [Homebrew session-manager](https://aws.amazon.com/cli/){:target="_blank"} for Mac or the general [AWS installation instruction](https://docs.aws.amazon.com/systems-manager/latest/userguide/session-manager-working-with-install-plugin.html) for other platforms. `session-manager` is used by `ok forward` to connect to your database remotely.

## Verification

Confirm both tools resolve on your `PATH`:

```sh
aws --version
session-manager-plugin --version
```

Each command prints the version it installed. A `command not found` error means that tool did not install — repeat its step above.
